Taking the Election to School: Making Education a Focus of the 2012 Election

Since the creation of its Department of Education Policy and Social Analysis in 2010, Teachers College has enhanced its standing as a preeminent training ground for future education policy leaders.

One major reason for that success, beyond the College's longstanding track record of shaping data-driven policy through research, practice and dialogue, is the generosity of Phyllis L. Kossoff, distinguished alumna scholarship supporter and member of the President’s Advisory Council. Through the Phyllis L. Kossoff Lecture on Education and Policy, the College has hosted key figures such as U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan; Merryl Tisch, Chancellor of the New York State Board of Regents; and Dennis Walcott former Chancellor of the New York City Public Schools. Most recently, in Fall 2012, the Kossoff Lecture featured a debate between the education advisors of President Obama and his Republican challenger Mitt Romney.
Teachers College is most grateful to Phyllis Kossoff for helping to establish it as, quite literally, the premier address for the national conversation about education writ large.previous page
