TC Welcomes New Members to the Faculty

This Year's New Arrivals:
Ofelia Garcia, International and Transcultural Studies
Ofelia Garcia comes to TC from Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus where she was a Professor of Teaching and Learning and Dean of the School of Education. Prior to that, she was a Professor of Bilingual Education at the City College of New York's School of Education. Garcia has written about sociolinguistics, multilingualism and bilingualism in the United States.
She earned her Ph.D. in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Languages and Literatures from the Graduate Center at the City University of New York.
Sally M. Hage, Clinical and Counseling Psychology
Coming to TC from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, where she was an Assistant Professor, Sally M. Hage joined the program of Counseling Psychology. She received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology 1998 from the University of Minnesota's Educational Psychology Department. Her dissertation investigated the resiliency of battered women.
Hage has counseled children and teens of divorced families, graduate and undergraduate students, and diverse adult populations. She has done research involving residents of shelters and transitional housing for battered women and children.
She earned her M. Div. in professional ministry from the Theology Department at the University of Notre Dame.
Jeffrey Henig, Organization and Leadership
The Department of Organization and Leadership welcomes Jeffrey Henig who comes to TC from George Washington University where he was Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science and the Director of the Center for Washington Area Studies. He has written on privatization, civics and school reform.
Henig received his doctoral degree in Political Science in 1978 from Northwestern University and Bachelor's Degree in Government from Cornell University.
Stephen Lepore, Health and Behaviorial Sciences
The Behaviorial Sciences program welcomes Stephen Lepore from Brooklyn College, CUNY, where he was a Professor of Psychology. At the Graduate Center of CUNY he did doctoral appointments in experimental, environmental, and social/personality psychology. In addition he is an Adjunct Research Scientist at the American Health Foundation Cancer Center in New York. He has received many honors and awards, including the Award for Outstanding Contributions to Health Psychology from the Div 38 (Health) of the American Psychological Association.
He received his Ph.D. in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine. He earned his Ed.M. in Counseling and Clinical Psychology from Harvard University in 1986 and his B.A. in Psychology with high honors from Clark University.
Young Sun Lee, Human Development
New to TC from the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Department of Psychology, where she was a Teaching Assistant, Young-Sun Lee is joining the College as an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Education. Her emphasis is in educational and psychological measurement. Her dissertation focused on the applications of isotonic regression in item response theory.
In 1994, Lee earned her master's degree in education from Ewha Women's University in Seoul, South Korea. She also received her Bachelor's Degree from Ewha Women's University in Education.
Xiadong Lin, Math, Science and Technology
Xiaodong Lin comes to TC from the Peabody College at Vanderbilt University where she was an Assistant Professor of Education and Technology and a Senior Research Scientist at the Cognition and Technology Group at Vanderbilt Learning Technology Center. Lin was nominated for the Year 2001 American Educational Research Association Early Career Award and recipient of the Year 2000 American Educational Research Association Jan Hawkin's Early Career Award to Humanistic Research and Scholarship in Learning Technologies.
She got her Ph.D. from Purdue University in Instructional Psychology and Educational Technology. Lin earned her M.A. from Lousiana State University in Elementary Science Education and Information Technology and her Bachelor's in Psycho-linguistics and Educational Philosophy from Teachers College, HeNan University, in the People's Republic of China.
Philip Saigh, Health and Behaviorial Sciences
Coming to the College from the City University of New York's Graduate School and University Center, Philip Saigh joins the School Psychology program. At CUNY, he directed the School Psychology Doctoral Specialization and chaired the accreditation process leading to the initial American Psychological Association (APA) accreditation of the specialization.
He also developed and supervised school psychology practica and internships. Since 1994, he has been an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the New York University Medical Center where he directed a Child-adolescent Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Project at Bellevue Hospital, provides assessment and referral services, and taught child psychiatry residents and fellows. Saigh has written about adolescents, and posttraumatic stress disorder.
He received his Master of Arts from the University of Georgia in Educational Psychology with a specialization in School Psychology.
Erica N. Walker, Math, Science and Technology
Walker came to Teachers College last fall as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from Harvard's Graduate School of Education where she earned her Ed.D. in administration, planning and social policy. Her dissertation focused on which students take math classes and why, and for those who discontinue math studies, why they stop. Before coming to TC, she was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard Graduate School of Education and a high school mathematics teacher in Chamblee, Georgia.
Walker received her Ed.D from Harvard's Graduate School of Education in 2001. She also earned her Ed.M. in Adminstration, Planning and Social Policy from that school in 1997. At Wake Forest University, she was awarded an Ma.Ed. in Mathematics Education.previous page
