Things get rolling on Thursday, September 1, with an orientation event for international students in the Cowin Conference Center, which will feature a session titled “U.S. Strategies for Academic Survival and Success.” The next several days will include walking tours of the neighborhood and local supermarkets, a shopping trip to Target, and an information session about academic resources at TC and Columbia.
On Tuesday, September 6th, TC President Susan Fuhrman will officially welcome the entering class, followed by Provost Thomas James and Student Senate President Vikash Reddy. There will also be a faculty presentation by Marc Lamont Hill, Associate Professor of English Education, as well as departmental academic orientation sessions in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the seventh annual TC Block Party will run concurrently from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
But orientation does not end when classes begin on September 7. Events over the following weeks will include a bus tour of the city; trips see “Wicked” and visit outlet stores at the Woodbury Commons; an academic writing workshop; a part-time job fair; and a meet-and-greet with members of the TC Student Senate and other student organizations.
