Being a good neighbor isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s part of the mission shared by TC and JPMorgan Chase (JPMC). So when TC approached the JPMC Foundation to request support for the Office of School and Community Partnerships’ Partnership Schools Consortium (PSC), JPMC responded first with a $100,000 planning grant and then a three-year, $1 million gift to help TC fully implement the initiative.

This generous support will enable the PSC (which is made up of local K–12 public schools) to continue improving the educational and developmental outcomes of children in target areas of Harlem. It will allow the consortium to demonstrate how higher education can strategically collaborate with underachieving and under-resourced K–12 schools to promote student learning, academic rigor and success in sustainable and cost-effective ways. Applying  the concept of Comprehensive Educational Opportunity developed at TC, the PSC has made a long-term commitment to meeting both the academic and social needs of students attending its partnership schools.

For JPMorgan Chase, the PSC helps further its own philanthropic goal of being a catalyst for meaningful, positive and sustainable change in high-need communities around the globe. The firm’s support will help TC bring its innovative work, research, best minds and the next generation of teachers to the many schools, students and parents struggling in the neighborhoods near its campus. “Collaborating with TC, we have an opportunity to bring national attention to the critical elements of public education reform,” said Gayle Jennings-O’Byrne, Vice President, JPMorgan Chase Foundation. “By spotlighting the power of these types of innovative ideas and partnerships, it only furthers our common goal of closing the achievement gap for low income children in one of the nation’s highest-need communities.”
