As the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) seeks the best candidate to fill the slot of superintendent, TC's Tom Sobol recommends giving consideration to an individual with previous experience in a large, urban school setting. "I don't think it's necessary, but I think it helps," said the professor of education leadership. "Nothing fully prepares you for a job like Dallas. It's useful to have that experience."Sobol himself is a former superintendent and Commissioner of Education of New York state. If faced with choosing between two candidates who were equal in all other respects, he stated, "I would take the one who had experience in a large district."
The article, entitled "DISD Search Familiar," appeared in the March 28 edition of The Dallas Morning News.
