Recently, the Committee for Community and Diversity (CCD) announced the 2003 recipients of The President's Grant for Student Research in Diversity, which provides support for outstanding student research projects related to diversity including culture, language, gender, sexual orientation, race-ethnicity, and disabilities.

Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot, the Emily Hargroves Fisher Professor of Education at Harvard University and author, came to talk to the TC Community about her book, The Essential Conversation: What Parents and Teachers Can Learn from Each Other, in an event sponsored by The Education Leadership Program in the Department of Organization and Leadership in September. Lawrence-Lightfoot was introduced by Maxine Greene, the William F. Russell Professor of Education (Emeritus) at Teachers College.

The Peace Education Center of Teachers College, in collaboration with the UNESCO-affiliated Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), organized the 2003 International Institute on Peace Education (IIPE) in Seoul, Korea. From August 4 through 10 APCEIU hosted the institute that was attended by more than 100 participants from 22 countries.

William Dodge Rueckert, a member of the Teachers College Board of Trustees since 1997, will become Co-chair of the Trustees at the October 23rd Board meeting, replacing Antonia Grumbach. He will share his duties as Co-chair with Trustee Jack Hyland, who took over for Pat Cloherty in October of 2002.
