  • Academic Homecoming

    Harvard Professor Carol Gilligan and TC Professor Emeritus Maxine Greene will hold a dialogue as the keynote address for Academic Homecoming on Saturday, April 25, in Horace Mann Auditorium. Following the keynote address, Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented at lunch to: Jerome T. Murphy, M.A. 1962, who is Dean of Harvard Graduate School of Education; Bert Konowitz, Ed.D. 1969, who is Adjunct Professor in the Department of Arts and Humanities at TC; and Frances O'Connell, Ed.D. 1984, who is Associate Professor of Early Childhood/Elementary Education at New York University. Early Career Awards go to Norman Atkins, M.A. 1997, who is Co-Founder and Co-Director of the North Star Academy Charter School of Newark; and Grace Shen, Ed.D. 1988, who is the Executive Director of the Long Island Arts Council. The events begin at 9:00 a.m. in the Student Lounge. Lunch will be at 1:30 p.m. in the cafeteria.

  • First Thomas H. Kean Award Honors Gov. Zell Miller (D-GA), Gov. Tommy Thompson (R-WI) for Commitment to Education

    On April 8, the Institute on Education and Government at TC, headed by former West Virginia Governor Gaston Caperton, is going to recognize two governors--Zell Miller (D-GA) and Tommy G. Thompson (R-WI)-- as state leaders whose vision for public education has most transformed schools across the nation.

  • IUME: Anti-Violence Initiative

    TC's Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME) and University of Colorado's Center for the Study of Prevention of Violence (CSPV) will be sharing a $400,000 grant from the Metropolitan Life Foundation to help address the problems of youth violence.

  • TC Hosts Parent Participation Workshop

    Dr. Roscoe Brown, Director of the Center for Urban Education Policy of the Graduate School and University Center at CUNY, directed a parent training session at the March workshop, "Parent Participation in Public Education: Budget and Governance Strategies."

  • The Community College Research Center Hosts a Worksgroup Series

    The Community College Research Center (CCRC), which was created in 1996 with a three-year grant from the Alfred E. Sloan Foundation, is holding a monthly workgroup made up TC faculty and scholars from a wide range of institutions in the metropolitan area.

  • The Walter Sindlinger Writing Awards

    Last year, an anonymous donor established the Walter E. Sindlinger Writing Award to recognize Teachers College students who demonstrate outstanding writing in the field of education.
