BookTalking with Maxine Greene
Maxine Greene, the William F. Russell Professor Emeritus in the Foundations of Education and Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Education, continues to flunk retirement. Not only does she teach a class at TC each semester, but she also published another book, Variations on a Blue Guitar. On January 29th, at the American Museum of Natural History, she discussed it with Richard Heffner at the latest TC BookTalk event.

Dr. Judy Kuriansky, or "Dr. Judy," as she is fondly called by her millions of fans, is teaching a course on the Psychology of Intimacy and is an Adjunct Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology.

The artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude donated the collection of 26 personally-signed prints that are on permanent display at TC. All the prints, which were created by the artists, depict their site specific, large-scale public art works, said Lisa Hochtritt, Doctoral Student in Art Education and Arts Education Coordinator at the Heritage School.

Accelerated Schools, founded by Professor Henry M. Levin, a school improvement program designed to bring challenging curricula to disadvantaged students, appears to have paid off in some of the schools that tried it early on, according to an independent study.

A new TC program will be providing tuition-free Master's degrees for 15 to 25 graduating seniors at Columbia University. The goal of the Columbia Urban Educators (CUE) program is to train people to become New York City public middle school teachers in Harlem and Washington Heights. For the first year of the program, graduate students teach at the schools and receive a beginning teachers salary. They also commit to two years of teaching in the districts. During the summers and weekends of these two academic years, CUE students also take courses to complete a Master's degree, which is required for full certification.
