In the first cross-sectional study of 321 women to assess osteoporosis knowledge, beliefs, and preventative behaviors-86 percent of the survey participants had heard of osteoporosis, but only 3 percent of the respondents reported getting both adequate exercise and the recommended calcium intake.

"When Mayor Giuliani announced a raft of education proposals in his final state-of-the-city speech in January, one in particular seemed to assure him a solid legacy: the creation of small libraries in each of the city's 21,000 elementary and middle school classrooms," The New York Times reported recently. Work already in progress at Professor Lucy Calkins' Reading and Writing Project would become an integral part of the resulting project, now generally known as "The Mayor's Classroom Library Project."

Constance K. Bond who received her Ph.D. in Politics and Education in May 2001, has written a controversial dissertation, "Do Teacher Salaries Matter?" which says, in effect, money does matter and one way to spend educational dollars effectively is to significantly increase teacher salaries.
