$1 Million Grant from Spencer Foundation will Support a New Type of Doctoral Research Experience
Teachers College has received a $1 million grant from the Spencer Foundation to support the preparation of outstanding doctoral students as educational researchers and to develop an apprenticeship model that may well redefine the doctoral experience at the College and in other graduate schools of education.

More than half of the $6 million of expenditures approved by the Trustees of Teachers College will be used over the next two years to renovate and restore many of the "core elements" of the institution's infrastructure, such as roofs, facades, windows, electrical wiring, plumbing and restrooms.

The Teachers College Trustees have approved $6 million of expenditures over the next two years to upgrade technology throughout the institution--from classrooms to offices to residence-hall rooms--and to make critical repairs to the physical plant of the College. While the amount authorized does not cover the full $26 million identified for critical plant repairs and advanced technology, it does provide for initial efforts to build the foundation for continued improvements.

Ennis Cosby was, of course, the son of Bill Cosby, the famous entertainer, but, according to his professors at Teachers College, the young man did not make much of that fact. Cosby was shot to death early Thursday morning, January 16, as he changed a flat tire on a deserted roadway in Southern California. He was 27 years old.
