America, Lost and Found: TC's 2005 Annual Report

The 2005 Teachers College Annual Report, "America, Lost and Found: Shaping the Future Through Policy & Practice," is now available around campus and can be viewed online by clicking on the link at left.

Through six stories of initiatives at TC, the report looks at how the College is transforming itself into an education "policy mecca"; working to put quality teachers in struggling schools; involving itself in school-rebuilding efforts in New Orleans; addressing the challenges facing students in community colleges; focusing on a comprehensive approach to educational equity that views health, psychology, family, community  and economic well-being as essential to classroom performance; and collaborating with educators in China through art and technology.

There are also research highlights in fields ranging from clinical psychology to international math education to the use of video games as a teaching tool. 

The report's cover image is a photograph taken by TC student Jeremy Robbins during a visit to New Orleans as part of a trip led by instructors at the College and at Columbia University. It shows the faces of young children found on refrigerator magnets in an abandoned house destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

And of course, you'll find the final Annual Report essay by departing President Arthur Levine, which re-set s the "Rip Van Winkle" story in the last quarter of the 20th century  to look at the changing demands on education.  Be sure to check out the accompanying illustration by TC doctoral student Ian Toledo.
