Current reforms in education place increasing emphasis on broad-based public understanding of the department's three core fields. The department focuses on issues of educational practice and related professions, including the relationships among its three disciplines. This year:

O. Roger Anderson presented an invited paper,"Radiolaria in a ChangingGlobal Climate,"for the AmericanAssociation forthe Advancementof Science series"Cutting Edge:Art & Science ofClimate Change."Radiolaria areplankton tracked todetect ocean temperaturechanges.

Trustee Ruth Gottesman (Ed.D. '68) established the Ruth L. Gottesman Math & Science Scholarship Education Fund.

Bruce Vogeli chaired the symposium"MathematicsEducationin Latin America,"which honoredBrazil's pioneeringethnomathematician Ubiratn D'Ambrosio and launchedVogeli's book, Mathematicsand Its Teachingin the Southern Americas(World Scientific Press),coedited with alumni Hctor Rosario and Patrick Scott.

Alexander Karp editedLeaders inMathematicsEducation: ExperienceandVision (SensePublishers)and co-authoredHandbook onthe History of MathematicsEducation (Springer).

Erica Walker authored Beyond Banneker: Black Mathematicians and Paths to Excellence (SUN Press).

Communications, Media and Learning Technologies Design, the department'srenamed technologyarm, recast itsM.A. program as "Designand Digital Games." Anew Media and Social Change Lab advancesmulti-modal scholarship.

 "Engaging Communitiesof Learners," the 2014student-run TC Educational Technology Conference,waskeynoted by Jordana Drell, Vice President,PreschoolGames, NickelodeonGroup,and Dennis Tenen, Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities, Columbia University.

The Annual Meeting of the Northeast Region Association for Science Teacher Education (NE-ASTE) was organized at TC by Jessica Riccio (NEASTE Director), Felicia Moore Mensah and alumna Amanda Gunning (NE-ASTE Treasurer). O. Roger Anderson was honored for his 50 years as a faculty member and science educator.
