There are four buildings currently available to house single students-Whittier Hall, 517 West 121st, Grant Hall, and International House (I. House).
Whittier Hall is located at 1230 Amsterdam Avenue (at the corner of 120th Street). There are several different types of housing accommodations offered in the building. All assignments offer a private bedroom. Room sizes vary in all accommodation types. In the single rooms, approximately 20 students of the same gender share kitchen and bathroom facilities. Suite rooms have kitchen and bath facilities shared by three to six individuals of the same gender. All student housing is furnished with a bed, desk, desk chair, overhead light, mirror, chest of drawers and/or wardrobe. The efficiency, one and two bedroom, and studio units have a private kitchen, with a kitchen table and chairs provided.
517 West 121st is our newest residence hall, which was completed in September 2004 and contains 252 studio apartments with shared common kitchens distrbuted throughout the building. The studios are approximately 225 square feet in size, and each one has a private bathroom. Units are furnished with a twin bed (double in the large efficiencies), desk, desk chair, table, refrigerator, microwave, floor lamp, chest of drawers and/or wardrobe. The larger efficiencies include a stove and easy chair.
Grant Hall, located at 514 West 122nd Street, is a six-story building with four apartments on each floor. The courtyard side, is composed of shared two bedroom apartments containing two bedrooms, an eat-in kitchen, and bathroom.
International House (I. House), a residential community of 700 graduate students, interns and trainees located at

Teachers College also offers three residence halls for student family housing: Bancroft, Grant, and Sarasota Halls. These buildings offer one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom apartments. One-bedroom apartments are assigned to families with one child or none. Depending upon availability, two bedroom and three bedroom apartments are assigned to families with two or more children.
To be eligible for family housing, students must demonstrate that the applicant and the individual(s) with whom the applicant is applying to reside together share a qualifying family relationship. Qualifying family relationships under current policy include the following: (a) marriage, (b) presence of minor or dependent child, or (c) domestic partnership, (a long-term relationship between the two adults). Relationships that do not qualify for family housing status include: parents, grandparents or siblings of applicants, other than a minor sibling for whom the resident is the legal guardian.
