International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution (ICCCR)

The ICCCR is an innovative center committed to developing knowledge and practice to promote constructive conflict resolution, effective cooperation, and social justice. The center partners with individuals, groups, organizations, and communities to create tools and environments  from which conflicts can be resolved constructively and just and peaceful relationships can develop. They work with sensitivity to cultural differences and emphasize the links between theory, research, and practice. While many other conflict resolution  centers focus on providing training and consulting, their training and work with the community is rooted in their scholarship.

Education Objectives:

  • Offer individuals opportunities to develop the fundamental skills required to be successful practitioners of cooperation and conflict resolution: self-reflection and awareness; communication re: needs and objectives ; negotiation and mediation.
  • Educate future leaders who will further the development of theory and practice in the interrelated areas of conflict resolution, cooperation, and social justice.
  • Seek to increase public awareness of constructive methods for conflict prevention and resolution, of the many forms of oppression, of strategies for overcoming social injustice in families, organizations, and communities worldwide, and for fostering sustainable peace.

Advanced Certificate in Cooperation and Conflict Resolution

The Advanced Certificate in Cooperation and Conflict Resolution comprises five required core courses, one elective course, and one semester-long internship. This level of study is aimed at developing the core competencies necessary for reflective scholar/ practitioners working in the conflict resolution field.

These competencies include:
  • A comprehensive understanding of theory and research in cooperation; conflict resolution, including the role of power and of groups; negotiation; mediation; cross-cultural communication; and social change
  • Strong self-reflective interpersonal, intergroup, and cross-cultural conflict resolution, problem-solving, and intervention skills
  • The application of theoretical and practical learning to areas of individual interest, such as school/community conflict resolution programs, organizational assessment and systems design, and work in international relations.
  • As a result, certificate holders will become scholar-practitioners able to integrate and implement both applied and academic work in conflict resolution.
