B.A. in History and African American Studies from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2008. Guyniesha Johnson began her career in education as a 3rd grade math teacher at James C. Rosser Elementary School in Moorhead, Mississippi. During her second year of teaching, she was named “Teacher of the Year” and her students’ successful test scores led the school to be moved from the “Academic Watch” state school designation to the “Successful” category. Guyniesha also served in the Corps Member Advisor role for the 2011 Mississippi Delta Summer Institute. Guyniesha is currently a 3rd grade Math, Science, and Social Studies teacher at Quitman County Elementary School in Lambert, MS. Quitman County Elementary School is a turnaround school that is partnered with the Barksdale Reading Institute and is under the leadership of a graduate of the Summer Principals Academy. Guyniesha is on the Leadership Team at her school, working to make the best decisions for the students and to form a professional learning community for the staff. She is looking forward to learning what it takes to become a transformational leader.
