B.A. in Political Science and History from The University of Colorado at Boulder in 2009. Alex LaPres began her career in education, three years ago, as a ninth grade English teacher in Chalmette High School, located in St. Bernard Parish. Since the destruction of Hurricane Katrina, Chalmette High School is the only public school available for High School students in St. Bernard Parish. Her recent leadership activities at Chalmette include leading a group of teachers to develop different school wide initiatives focused on increasing graduation rates and college admittance, as well as writing and piloting Common Core Curriculum. As a member of the 2012 SPA NOLA cohort, she looks forward to engaging with other adults and professionals in the program, in order to help solve many of the challenges schools face.
