"Dual Degree B.S. in Applied Physics from Morehouse College and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech. M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and MBA from Georgia Tech. Luqman began his teaching career at Westlake High School by assistant teaching ‘Intro to Engineering and A.P. Physics’ and coaching the boys and girls soccer teams. He then taught Physics, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Calculus at South Atlanta High school. Luqman also founded the men’s group ‘Man Up’ and coached the boys’ soccer team. Luqman then taught 7th grade math at KIPP WAYS academy in Atlanta, Georgia. KIPP WAYS is a high expectations college preparatory middle school in the West End in Atlanta. In his second year teaching at KIPP, Luqman was most proud of the fact that his wonderful students improved from 64% passing on the state math exam to 97% passing and 45% exceeding. Luqman also worked on a KIPP Metro Atlanta team to lead the transition of standards from GPS to common core by rewriting the 7th grade mathematics scope and sequence and calendar to reflect the changes in state standards. He is currently one of two Principal Fellows in Atlanta Public Schools and has been placed at Sutton Middle School. Luqman looks forward to utilizing his experiences and his SPA training to prepare for integrity-driven public school leadership in the urban setting."
