Stephen Peverly, Ph.D.
Stephen T. Peverly, Ph.D. is a Professor of Psychology and Education, Director of the Ph.D. Program in School Psychology, College Ombudsman, former chair of the Department of Health and Behavior Studies (2010-2016) a Fellow of Division 16 of the American Psychological Association (School Psychology), an elected member of the Society for the Study of School Psychology (SSSP) and Honorary Professor of Cognition and Education at the Universidad del Norte, in Barranquilla, Columbia. His courses include: The Psychology of Memory: Cognitive and Affective Bases; Reading Comprehension Strategies and Study Skills; and Professional and Ethical Functions for School Psychologists. His research focuses on the cognitive, affective and motivational processes that underlie reading comprehension and studying, especially lecture and text note-taking.
Ombuds for Gender-Based Misconduct
Riddhi Sandil, Ph.D.
I currently serve as an Assistant Professor Of Practice in the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University. Along with my faculty appointment, I am also the Ed.M. coordinator for the Counseling Program’s Masters Degrees in Professional and School Counseling. I graduated from the University of Iowa’s doctoral program in counseling psychology in 2008. I have worked as a Senior Staff Psychologist and Outreach Coordinator at the University of Utah’s Counseling Center (UCC) and obtained licensure as a Psychologist in May 2009. At the UCC, I specialized working with gender minorities who are in crisis, survivors of sexual abuse and harassment, individuals experiencing minority stress related to multiple marginalized identities and providing services to individuals who have experienced recent traumatic stress.
Since being licensed in May 2009, I have continually maintained a pro-bono private practice. I currently provide individual and group services to South Asian survivors of domestic violence in New York City. Within a feminist-multicultural framework, my clients are encouraged to foster empowerment and cope with their current life struggles. I am also on the board for SALGA-NYC, a community organization that serves the needs of South Asian LGBTQI individuals and assist with the general functioning of the organization.
My scholarly work demonstrates my commitment to understanding psychological health and barriers to accessing counseling resources by historically marginalized populations. My interest in the counseling experience of international populations, particularly women from South Asian countries and sexual minority populations is evidenced in my scholarly publications and presentations.
