STUDENTS struggling in reading and math in grades 1 and 3 have the opportunity for intensive support from TC students acting as Reading and Math Buddies.

Each TC “Buddy” spends 25-minutes a day with a student or a small group of students for the entire academic year. The service includes an assessment of academic progress and social and psychological needs.

The program currently provides 40 tutors and 600 hours per year in tutoring support for students in two Harlem schools. Results have shown demonstrable improvement on standardized tests and in students’ confidence levels and willingness to read.
