Curriculum Support

CHALLENGING conversations on race, class and national identity are stimulated by a cutting-edge curriculum designed to accompany Spike Lee’s documentary on Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath, When the Levees Broke: a Requiem in Four Acts.

The 100-page curriculum, titled “Teaching the Levees”, developed by a team led by professor Margaret Crocco, aims to engage participants in “democratic dialogues” relating to the subject areas of economics, geography, civics, history and media literacy. Offered free of charge, “Teaching the Levees” is funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. Call: (212) 678-3919, email:, or visit:
