BUILDING community, classroom management, grant-writing and professional portfolios are among the topics covered in a program designed to support early-career teachers.

The New Teacher Academy program, run by TC Innovations, provides training and materials for district facilitators who address these issues with cohorts of up to 25 teachers in18 bi-weekly school-based meetings focused on peer-mentoring and teamwork.

Average retention rates have risen from 50 to 90 percent in districts which use the program.
