Applicants • Timeline

Timeline for Applicants

August - September 2009   

  • Seek recommendation letters.
  • Review program and application requirements.
  • Apply for TC housing, if necessary.

October – November 2009   

  • Begin applying online.  A username and password will enable you to begin completing the application, as well as receiving supplementary materials from our Program. As you apply online, please make sure to check the box indicating that you are applying to be a Peace Corps Fellow. If not applying online, send the TC application DIRECTLY to the Office of Admissions.  Send the Peace Corps Fellows supplementary requirements DIRECTLY to the Peace Corps Fellows Program. The deadline is January 15.

  • Contact the Peace Corps Fellows Program office to schedule an in-person interview and school visit or a phone interview with a staff member (preferably for November-January).

December 2009 – January 2010   

  • Ensure all application materials have been received by admissions and the Peace Corps Fellows Program (must be postmarked or emailed by no later than December 15 for the priority deadline and January 15, 2010 for the final deadline).
  • Register for the appropriate CST and LAST exams. You should take these exams no later than July 2010 to receive results before August. All applicants will be reimbursed for the costs of the CST and LAST exams regardless of whether or not they are accepted to the program. So please save your receipts! (A passing score on these tests is required before you can begin teaching in the fall.) Additionally, the GRE is waived for incoming fellows.
  • Complete the Federal Aid application (FAFSA) for the 2009-2010 academic year and the 2010-2011 academic year.
  • Apply for TC Financial Aid for the 2009-2010 academic year and the 2010-2011 academic year.

March – April 2010

  • TC Housing applications are processed.  If you are offered housing, you will be asked to submit a security deposit.
  • TC Admissions notifications begin to be sent out.
  • TC Financial Aid notifications begin to be sent out.
  • If accepted, send commitment form to Peace Corps Fellows Program and tuition deposit to the Office of Admissions.

May 2010

  • Sunday, May 16: Move in date for TC housing.
  • Monday, May 17: Begin PCFP Summer Intensive Training.
  • Attend TC New Student Experience orientation.
  • Thursday, May 20 (approximation): TC Summer A classes begin.
  • Begin field work classroom observations in schools.
  • Update résumé and begin job search.

June 2010

  • Continue TC coursework.
  • Continue PCFP Summer Intensive Training.
  • Continue field work classroom observations.
  • Continue job search.
  • Submit New York City Department of Education online application.

July 2010

  • TC Summer B coursework begins.
  • Get fingerprinting done for NYCDOE.
  • Final chance to take CST and LAST certification exams
  • Continue PCFP Summer Intensive Training.
  • Continue job search.

August 2010

  • TC Summer B coursework ends.
  • Successfully complete PCFP Summer Intensive Training .
  • Secure a teaching position.

September 2010

  • NYCDOE teaching begins (first paycheck should be mid-September or at the end of the month).
  • NYCDOE medical insurance begins
  • TC fall courses begin (evenings)
