Columbia University Philosophy Outreach Program

The Columbia University Philosophy Outreach Program is a collaborative project created by graduate students in the Philosophy and Education Program at Teachers College and the Department ofPhilosophy at Columbia University. The mission of the Philosophy Outreach Program is to promote the practice ofphilosophy as an way for schools to cultivate in their students skills and qualities which are invaluable to academic, vocational, social, and personal endeavors. With the conviction that philosophical inquiry is indispensable to the development of sound educational theory and the manifestation of effective practice, volunteers in our school programs engage public and independent school students in philosophical discussions. Furthermore, the program is committed to working with teachers and school leaders interested in improving curriculum and enhancing teacher effectiveness by incorporating philosophical inquiry, materials, and dialogue into classrooms.
