Honoring Alumni Hannah and Harold Scholl for Their Generosity

Hannah and Harold Scholl dedicated their lives to helping children overcome learning and communication challenges. They prepared for their careers at Teachers College – Hannah earning her M.A. and Ph.D. in Speech Science and Correction in 1949 and 1959, respectively. Harold followed Hannah to TC, earning his Ed. D. in Speech and Language Pathology in 1957.

After working here in what is now TC’s Mysak Clinic for Communications Disorders, Hannah -- who passed away in 2007 -- went on to co-author several widely admired books, including Comparisons of Voice Between Young College Women and Their Mothers; Speech and Language Faults of Schizophrenic Children; and Children With Conduct Disorders.  She served as Professor of Speech Pathology and Linguistics at East Stroudsburg State College in Pennsylvania, and was a member of the Association for Psychoanalytic Medicine. Generosity as a Matter of Policy

With its newly created Department of Education Policy and Social Analysis being launched in the next academic year, Teachers College is poised to become the pre-eminent training ground for future education policy leaders.

A Gift to Support Diabetes Education

Teachers College has received a three-year $170,000 pledge from trustee and alumna Marla Schaefer (MA, Organizational Psychology) through her family’s foundation, to support the College’s new Diabetes Education and Management program.   
 
It is estimated that more than half of the American population will develop diabetes or pre-diabetes by the end of 2020.   Diabetes Educators, capable of teaching self-management skills to those with the disease, are and will be critically needed.  However, such professionals are currently in short supply. Farber Foundation Pledge Supports TC's Rita Gold Center

Teachers College has received a five-year $50,000 pledge from the Gloria and Hilliard Farber Foundation to enhance The Leslie R. Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund was established in memory of Williams, a Professor of Education in the Curriculum and Teaching department whose work focused on multicultural and early childhood education. Williams passed away in 2007. Professor Williams wanted all children to be able to experience a high quality early childhood education. This fund reflects her wishes. [read more...]
