II. How to File for a Masters Degree?

  1. Login to myTC portal
  2. Click access your "Degree Audit"
  3. Click on the declared major and select "Create Audit" button
  4. Click on the "Print View" icon

Your degree audit will show you which requirements you have met (using green checks). Red "X" marks indicate non-completion of a requirement. As you prepare to apply for graduation, you should see only green check marks on your audit for all areas except your integrative project, comprehensive exam or courses that are in progress.

However, audits with red "X" marks can still file for the degree if requirements will be met by the project deadline stated in section I.  If you believe you have met a requirement but your audit indicates otherwise, please speak to your advisor or write to degreeaudit@tc.columbia.edu.

5. Submit the printed audit to your advisor for review and his/her signature

The signed audit is submitted by the student or the advisor via email to degreeaudit@tc.columbia.edu. This will serve as your degree application and intent to complete requirements for the conferral of your degree. Submission of the signed degree audit does not automatically guarantee that your degree will be awarded.

Renewal for Application of Degree

This Renewal for Application of Degree‌ is to be used by candidates who have been declared ineligible for graduation after either the first application or any subsequent renewal for degree.

The renewal fee of $25 will be charged to your student account upon receipt and processing of the renewal form.

If degree requirements are not fulfilled by the graduation date requested on the front of this form, subsequent forms my be submitted each time a candidate chooses reconsideration, within a period not to exceed three years. Original degree applications will be retained in the Office of the Registrar for a period of three years.

III. Degree Audit Process

The degree audit process is lengthy as each audit is reviewed individually.

  • A preliminary review of degree audits is performed after the filing deadline. Students whose degree audit shows any deficiencies will be notified via TC email. When necessary, we will also reach out to the program advisor.
  • Once the semester has ended and grades are entered, a final review is performed. Students whose degree audit continues to show deficiencies will be notified via TC email.
  • Emails are sent verifying the degree has been awarded to those who have completed all requirements.

Note: Students admitted in a Teacher Education program as of Autumn 2016 and after must complete the General Liberal Arts & Science, Content Core and workshop requirements in addition to curricular requirements as outlined by the program in order for the degree(s) to be awarded.

IV. Convocation

ONLY ONE University-wide Commencement ceremony is held each year in May.  All students who have applied for or earned a degree for that academic year will receive information in mid-March.
