Educational and Professional History

Dr. Vanessa Smith Morest holds a Doctoral in Sociology of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.  She is currently the Dean of Institutional Effectiveness at Norwalk Community College in Norwalk, Connecticut, where she is responsible for research, planning, assessment, and grants management. 


Research and Teaching Interests

Prior to this role, Dr. Smith Morest was the Assistant Director for Postsecondary Research at the Community College Research Center, Teachers College, Columbia University (CCRC).  While at CCRC she designed and led numerous national research projects on college missions, Advanced Technological Education and institutional research.  She is co-editor of Defending the Community College Equity Agenda (2006). 

Dr. Smith Morest’s research focuses on data driven decision making, innovative diffusion, organizational change, and community college missions
