TC Alert / Emergency Notification System

What is TC Alert?

Our Electronic Notification System called TCAlert, enables fast and efficient dissemination of information of an urgent nature,such as College closings, to our TC community. This system is NOT used for general announcements. Through TCAlert the College may send simultaneous alerts to registered users in minutes, primarily through text messaging.  

All members of the TC community are strongly encouraged to partner with the College by registering their cell phone number with TC Alert. It may be used in conjunction with other communication methods, such as College-wide broadcast emails, online updates via the Teachers College homepage, coordinated use of public media outlets, and public address systems within most College buildings. 

To receive this early warning / emergency message, you must be registered in the TC Alert System.  

What is TC Alert ?

TCAlert is the Emergency Notification system that allows the College to send simultaneous emergency text and voice message alerts in the event of an emergency that affects the college community.

Will I receive other announcements over TC Alert?

No,  TC Alert is NOT used for general announcements.

How will I be notified in the event of an emergency?

Students/Staff/Faculty are notified via a text message or voice message on your cell phone and or laptop.  Individuals who cannot receive text messages may receive these notifications via voice messages.

Are there ever test notifications?

Yes, there are test notifications throughout the academic year to ensure the system is operating properly.  This will be indicated by "TEST" message and no reply is necessary.  For those without text capibility, a voice message will be sent to their phone.

Is there a charge for the service?

There is no charge for the TCAlert service from Teachers College. Some wireless phone carriers may charge a fee for receiving SMS text messages. Please check with your carrier.


To sign up for TCAlert please follow the steps below.            

1. Click on the link to go to the Teachers College MyTC Portal

2. Log in to the system using your UNI ID and password (Students,Staff and faculty who do not have a TC UNI ID should contact the Office of Telecommunications at 212-678-3456).                                                      

3. Select the "TC Services" link.                                                     

4. Select the "TC Alert" in the "Transactions" channel. 

5. Enter a phone number to receive TEXT messages OR a phone number to receive a VOICE message.

6. Press SUBMIT. 
 Within 48 hours of signing up for the system you will receive a TEST message confirming that you have registered to receive messages. If you do not receive confirmation within 48 hours please contact the Office of Telecommunications at 212-678-3456.
