SECTION 1
How Do I Find a Baby Sitter?

Childcare in New York City is complex and as a parent, you have many childcare options. You need to decide whether you will hire a nanny, babysitter or au pair or enroll your child in a day care program. Nannies usually refer to full-time, semi-permanent employees who are specially trained to care for young children. They can be with a family for a few weeks or up to many years. Many families in New York go for this option. A Babysitter refers to a reliable, sometimes trained person who cares for a child for an evening or several hours during the day. And finally, an Au Pair is someone who comes from abroad to live with a family for a specified period of time and receives room, board, and a salary.

In this section, we provide you with a directory of phone numbers for various baby sitting, nanny, and au pair agencies in the city. You can also look on the bulletin boards in and around Teachers College and the surrounding area for people advertising their baby-sitting services. Additionally, we include a "help list" where you can write important information for your babysitter to refer to when you are gone.
