Before joining CPRE, he served as policy advisor for education for New Jersey Governor Jim Florio, director of school improvement for research for better schools, and director of evaluation and chief-of-staff of the New Jersey Department of Education. He has served as a consultant to urban school districts and national foundations on improving school effectiveness and equity. He has written many policy briefs that are seminal resources for study of large-scale or systemic change in education practices. Mr. Corcoran served as a member of the National Research Council’s K-8 Science Learning Study and their Steering Committee on Evaluating Options for Common Standards. He is a member of the new NRC Study Committee on Developing a Framework for the National Science Education Standards. Mr. Corcoran has served as a visiting professor of education policy at the Woodrow Wilson School of International and Public Affairs at Princeton University since 1999. He consults regular on educational issues in international contexts, particularly in Thailand and in Jordan. Mr. Corcoran is also chair of the American Education Research Association’s Government Relations Committee and a member of the Asia Society’s Advisory Council on Education. Mr. Corcoran has a M.Ed. from the University of London, a M.A. in social history and B.A. in history, both from the University of Cincinnati.
