Conference, name and logo
The name RIBIE derives from Red IBeroamericana de Informatica Educativa, and 2000 from the year. RIBIE 2000 is the fifth Iberoamerican collaborative conference on this theme. The participants come from all over the Spanish speaking world in the western hemisphere and from Spain and Portugal in Europe, and include those using and interested in using computer-based technology in education at any level: primary school, secondary school, university, technical school, research institute, and elsewhere. The RIBIE logo (shown in the upper right corner of this and many other SeeRIBIE pages) expresses the scope and purpose of the meetings concisely. First, the geographic areas from which most participants come is clearly mirrored in the abstract red outline suggesting the western hemisphere below the U.S., the Caribbean, and, linked by a jagged path - perhaps that of the Columbian sailing ships - the Iberian peninsula. Second, the dimly printed motto arcs like a global outline to complete the image, its curving words: Todo un milenio para aprender conocer y crear con las nuevas tehnologias de la informacion y communicacion.
