This website uses on-the-spot sketches to create a complement to other records of a conference held in Bahrain in 1999, a conference to consider the impact of globalization on education in the Arab world, and particularly in Bahrain (see Two views of Globalization and Arab future below, for the presence of the theme in this meeting). Participants came from Bahrain, of course, as did some speakers, but several speakers came from other Arab countries, particularly Gulf States, and one, Robert P. Taylor, the creator of this site (see Site artist and creator below), came from the United States. From New York's Teachers College, Columbia University, Taylor has long been keenly interested in the impact of technology on the globalization of education and in that connection was the principal academic advisor at Columbia for the doctoral work several years ago of one of the organizers of the Bahrain conference, Dr. Fatima Al Balooshi. Taylor did all the drawings included in the site, as part of a continuing effort of his to use the web to broaden the record of meetings such as this conference (see Related Taylor websites below). Since the trip to and from Bahrain, from New York via London and back, had itself some compelling global dimensions relevant to the theme of the conference, these dimensions are explored, at various points in the website. The use of drawings in a website to create a complimentary record of a professional or other serious meeting is a tradition within the artist's work and is illustrated elsewhere as well as in this site (see Related Taylor websites below).
