This site is based on portraits drawn with pen or pencil upon chips of old paint. Such chips are abundant in the hundred year old buildings where I live and work, since all exhibit patches of peeling and chipping paint, dating from different eras in that history. However, though there are many chips, few are chosen to be turned into portraits. How I got started in creating such chip art and the purpose of featuring it in a website are summarized in Rationale for creating this site (below) and elaborated variously in individual pages throughout the site. Essentially, Chippery has two purposes: (1) to explain and publicize the process and the products of spotting and completing images from pain chips, and (2) to share with others at least some of the fun of spotting the image lurking in a chip and bringing it forth.Several links below are related to these purposes. Spotting the image in a chip and completing it illustrates the whole process with a sample chip. Indexes gives the visitor access to all the blank chips in the site and to the chip portraits completed from them, and does so in a way that encourages visitors to try to spot the "lurking" image for themselves. Related Art Webberies provide links to other webberies (web galleries) by the artist, webberies where use of digital technology to modify and preserve drawings is presented through many examples. Your reactions via Comments are welcome and might be used to modify this site.
