Robert P. Taylor's: Chippery - Portraits on Paint Chips

Chippery
One Chip, Two sides, Three Portraits

Here are two sides of the same chip, one of which (thumbnail in upper left corner of page) gave rise to one portrait idea, the other (upper right corner), to two. On my first look at this blank chip (upper left thumbnail) I saw lurking the image of someone in a dentist's chair being asked, "Which tooth hurts?". When I drew in that portrait (trio left) and turned the chip over (upper right thumbnail), I saw something quite different. Probably largely because I had rotated the chip when turning it over, I saw on the back side a gargoyle, and I filled it in (trio center). Finished with the gargoyle, I absentmindedly rotated the chip till the gargoyle's head was at the top, and saw the gargoyle magically become, with little further drawing, a Latin Lover (trio right). This certainly demonstrates the discovery ideas discussed below in Realizing the Portrait in the Chip, in Finding a Revelatory Orientation, and in One Chip - Two images.
