Robert P. Taylor's Flowery: a webbery of flower images

Images created using both watercolors and colored pencils

Here are the images in which both watercolors and colored pencils were extensively employed in creating each. The first, a yellow dafodil, was done on 17 May, 1997, the last, a yellow Iris on green paper, a month later. The preponderance of Irises among these images suggests that its blossom was particularly well suited to mixed use of the two media, and that was the case. Superimposed lines and color shifts were most easily accomplished by using the two media alternately, and the results demonstrate how well it worked. In some of these, a brush with just water was also imployed in places, on the penciled portions, to add smoothness. The total absence in the site of later images employing this mixture of watercolor and pencils, reflects the convenience, particularly in the field, of using primarily pencils, the more convenient medium of the two.

Each miniature above is linked to a detail page it shares with one other image in the site. In addition to two 6 inch high images, one of each of the pair, that page presents some detail about each of the two flowers and images -- size, time of year rendered, and so on.
