One Purple Iris, as painting and as cutout

Above are two renderings of the same Iris, both done on 15 May, 1997. The painted original was created with watercolors and pencils on off-white paper. The cutour original was simply snipped out of a sheet of purple colored construction paper, while looking at the blossom from the same angle as had been used in creating the watercolor. Cutouts, as Matisse and other artists have shown are challenging but fun to create, and, if done well, quite interesting to see. I did one other cutout, that one of a yellow Iris, and so cut it out of yellow paper (seeTwo Iris cutouts below).
