Robert P. Taylor's Flowery: a webbery of flower images

Flowery - Main Page

Flowery exhibits 61 digitized images of flowers, each an original watercolor, drawing, cutout, or some combination of such media. The first version of Flowery became accessible in autumn,1997. This version was created and made accessible in late December 2001, to capitalize on the improved image scanning and subsequent manipulation made possible by hardware and software developed since 1997. The originals were all rescanned and reformatted, and all accompanying text was reformatted and edited appropriately. In addition, several additional drawings were added, including one drawn in Puerto Rico and one drawn in Bahrain. Humans have transplanted flowers all over the world, so adding a couple drawings done of flowers growing abroad seemed quite fitting.

As the Index (see Overall Index below) shows, this site is organized to display digitized versions of several kinds of images, all of a small range of different kinds of flowers. Several flower types like Irises are represented by enough images to merit a separate sub-exhibit of that type of flower, but most are not and are all collected into one All Other Flowers exhibit. In addition to exhibits based on types of flowers represented, the site also is organized to display images according to the type of media used in creating them. Each exhibit presents thumbnails of every image featured in that exhibit, with each thumbnail linked to a larger-scale image of, and information about, the flower depicted.

This site and all the images and the drawings or watercolors those images mirror were created by Robert P. Taylor, of Teachers College, Columbia University.
