Compass point identification of three maidens


Throughout Fountain, individual figures are identified by the compass point each occupies along the circular path upon which they are frozen in dance. The image above, with the three maids suspended above a compass face, is provided to establish how this scheme works and which maid is which. Understanding which figure is which is particularly important because, with four exceptions, the site's images are solely of individual maids ( see Rationale for single maid focus, below).
