Visiting some of the other sketch-based websites linked below can broaden the context for interpreting Fountain. Though each has its own distinct theme and rationale, all are related in having been created in part at least, to clarify and extend the relationship between text and image in the medium of the web, and to (2) explore the unique relationship between of digitization of images and their display. The first, Webbery, was also one of largest and most complex, and experience with its creation conceptually gave rise to ideas for the others.

Webbery Is a gallery of scanned-in sketches and watercolors exploring the idea of arranging a large number of images in a fashion that allows the visitor some freedom in determining which to examine. Some of the images are based on artworks of others; some are original images of people, places, or things.

Reflect 101 self-portraits, the vast majority created in 1997 and 1998, opened in March 1998. This site was suggested by several self-portraits in Webbery.

ArtonArt The first website stemming from Webbery to focus exclusively on presenting images based of the art of others. The drawings in ArtonArt are of works in many different modes: paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints, etchings, and so on, and it certainly contributed to the idea for SeeAnew, below.

SeeAnew Another website stemming from Webbery, one based on drawings of 21 different sculptures, certainly contributed to the idea for Fountain.

Musicians, based on over 300 original drawings of musicians, is the largest and one of the most recent, though it, too, has its roots in Webbery.
