Robert P. Taylor's JuryDuty: reflections on a trial

Witness - NY City Police Officer

NYPD's Officer Manning (above, left) was one of the police officers who responded to the 911 call the night of the crime. He described the victim's appearance and condition, and recounted how, as the EMS workers wheeled her out of her apartment, the burned victim had pointed to a particular woman among the onlookers in the corridor and said "she's the one who set me on fire." When the ADA (above, center) prompted him, Officer Manning identified the defendant seated in the courtroom as the woman the victim had pointed to that night. The Defense Attorney (above, right) closely monitored Manning's testimony, but I do not recall any cross-examination.
