
This drawing was the first I tried of just part of a face. It was also one of the early ones done with ink, minimal-line drawing - a no corrections medium. It compares fairly well with later sketches and achieved the objectives set of making part suggest the whole and doing it by means of a few simple lines. Nearly the same view, in a quite different, shaded style doesn't prove to be much more representative (inset top).And going to a more abstract or distorted style doesn't produce anything more representative either (inset bottom). Whatever links the image to what the eye sees in person seems strong enough in this to transcend its minimal style..... ![]()
