R. P. Taylor - Self Portraits
Abstract Left Profile
Ballpen Drawing

This drawing was done in ball pen on white sketch pad paper at 9:30 pm. The face was 6.5 cm high. It is one of a number of profile drawings in Reflect but does not focus on surface accuracy of representation like some of the earler ones (insets top ). I remember trying to execute this sketch as rapidly as possible and according to the time recorded on the next sketch (inset bottom left), indicating that it was finished 8 minutes after the time this prior one was, the time to draw this one was probably about the same. In both, the focus was on conveying a sense of the profile without worrying about all the details - suggesting shading, for example, by contour lines only. This approach had been used with reasonable success in several earlier non-profile drawings (insets bottom center and right) so it was applied here, with what I think is a pleasing outcome.
