Aristide Maillol (1861-1944): Summer (1910-11) - Right front and front

Here are two of four drawings I did of Maillol's Summer. Digitized from a 6 inch, pencil sketch on yellow paper, the partial figure drawing represented at left was done quickly on 1 May 1999, rather on impluse, upon passing the Met Museum's bronze casting of this work. The drawing represented at right of an armless plaster version of the same work, was done carefully, six months later, not at the Met, but at an exhibit at MOMA, which included a bronze of Maillol's Springtime and this plaster of the related Summer. Having already decided to do a set of drawings of Springtime, I recalled the Met's bronze of Summer, and decided to prepare a companion set of drawings of that later piece. For that set, I did no more of this plaster version, but returning to the Met, did two more careful ones of the bronze I had so hurriedly done months before (see Summer, in order drawn below).
