This sketch was drawn during a December 18 rehearsal for a 1996 Christmas Concert at the Metropolitan Museum. A subset of the Riverside Choir has performed with Aulos there for about a decade, so I know these players and thought sketching them would be interesting. Each instrumentalist has a quite different working posture (insets) and this was an effort to explore that while trying to capture their absorption in music.
By the time I was sketching Myron, the ensemble was trying out some pretty fast tempi on one of their pieces and consequently, Myron's hair applears wilder than ever. My pen was jumping around his head in rhythm with their tempi and producing extra frizzes and offshoots all over the place!
