Robert P. Taylor's Webbery:A web gallery for two-dimenisonal art

Thematic Galleries

Above are the nine thematic galleries in this site. Each exhibits all images related to each other by the theme reflected in that exhibit's name, regardless of whether or not that image appears in one or more other thematic gallery, too. The galleries above thus differ sharply from Random Order Galleries, in that the same image may simultaneously appear in two or more galleries above (a drawing of a student who happened to be a musician known to the artist could, for example, appear concurrently in three of these galleries). Nothing makes this clearer than noting that the 9 galleries above respectively display 68, 17, 63, 16, 40, 81, 11, 20, and 25 images, or a total of 341, even though there are only 295 distinct drawings in the entire site! The possibility for such concurrent display is one major way in which a website differs from a traditional museum. This concurrency of display property developed in Webberywas replicated in all the sites it spawned, just as some of its organizing themes ("Anonymous Persons," "Musicians," and "Self Portraits") were reused and expanded into entire websites. Websites spawned by Webbery, below, amply demonstrates both this replication of exhibit concurrency and the reuse of exhibition themes.
