Robert P. Taylor's Musicians: Reflections of Music Making
Robert Convery, Composer and Choral Singer
I have known Bob since he was a doctoral student completing his studies at Julliard. He has sung in the Riverside Choir for several years, at two different periods, the more recent period having ended in late 1999. Bob has composed a wide range of music, both vocal and instrumental and some of it has been widely performed. We have done a number of his pieces, both solo and choral, at Riverside, and I have personally sung four songs that he composed on commission for Teachers College, Columbia University, for the graduation ceremonies at which I sang them (see left inset for more on the invocations and who performed). The drawings above were made at various points over the last few years, and together give a reasonable picture of Bob. Again, though none shows him singing, he has sung a lot and this has added to his insight into composing vocal music.
