Robert P. Taylor's Musicians: Reflections of Music Making

David Daniels, counter-tenor - Avery Fisher recital - 27 April 1999
Drawn on program showing some of works performed, including Hundley

This drawing on the program and two others (left inset) on plain yellow paper were done Tuesday, 27 April 1999 at Daniels' recital. I had been invited to attend by composer Richard Hundley (inset right) because Daniels was singing the four of his songs seen in the program fragment above. Like the two "yellow" drawings of Daniels, this drawing was also done from Avery Fisher's second balcony, and like them, suffers from that - the distance from there to the performer's location on the stage was simply too great. Drawing from too far away makes the rendering of any but the grossest of detail impossible. One may capture a general appearance, a posture or a gesture, but little more. Concert halls can be designed to minimize the decay of sound with distance from the performer, but they can not minimize the analogous decay of visual image. Daniels sang well and some time I hope to get close enough represent his performance appearance in more detail.
