These drawings were done as David sang on two quite different occasions, the first (left) during the 10 September 2000 Sunday morning service, the other during a Christ Chapel recital on 5 November 2000. As the bulletin fragment upon which it is drawn indicates, in the left image he is singing a Vaughn Williams selection based on Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. The sketch in the upper left was only a 5 second doodle to warm up. In the right drawing, he is singing a song by contemporary composer Pearson-Thomas, who was also accompanying him on the piano. This drawing captures the spirit of David's singing but is a bit sketchy for two reasons: (1) the drawing paper was grainy and (2) the back-lighting in the recital venue cast his eyes and the front of his face in the shadow. .
