This dual image of David Smith and Gerald Otte was done on the bulletin for 12 November 2000. Many colleagues have been drawn on bulletin space, and the reason is serendipitous: if I see an interesting subject but lack paper, if the bulletin is an appealing color and includes adequate blank space, I will often use it for drawing paper. The serendipity increases if the text on the bulletin in some way happens to relate to the drawing executed on the bulletin. In this instance, that is not so, but in others it can be ironic (left inset), interesting, or obviously reflective of the image (inset right).
