Robert P. Taylor's Musicians:
Reflections of Music Making

Singing Doxology
This was drawn 7 May 2000 during the 30-45 secs it takes to sing the Doxology. We had stood and Dale was right in front of me facing forward and ready to sing, when I suddenly got the urge to draw him in a Picasso-like single line drawing. This was the result. It certainly is less detailed than the rear view of Dale I inscribed in my Faure Requiem score (see All Dalelink, below), but...... it definitely captures Dale. Sometimes I feel myself drawing with the rhythm of the music when I draw musicians singing or playing, so perhaps that helps somehow. Anyhow the idea of drawing musicians fast during the Doxology has stuck with me and I have done other such drawings (insets below). The rigid time limit present an interesting challange and prevents endless fixing up of a drawing. You aim for the basic curve that characterizes the person. Of course Dale having become virtually bald makes that a bit easier.....
