Dale Zurbrick with Maestoso music to back him up...
The drawing above of Dale at the Maestoso opening of the Ite, Missa est in Kodaly's Missa Brevis was done on 22 oct 1997, during a rehearsal for the production about two weeks later. I have drawn Dale a number of times, and though he wears a variety of expressions, the somewhat detached, slight skepticism this image reflects is an element in many of them. Dale has spent his entire career in the musical world in or near New York City, singing, playing, conducting, producing, and listening, and certainly knows a lot about a wide range of music. A few notes in Maestoso backing him struck me as entirely fitting, so I quickly amended my score with a new dynamic marking. I wonder how the next singer will interpret it?
